Peanut

We went to the OBGYN today for our check up. While there the doctor wanted to listen to see if the baby had a heartbeat - just to make sure that the spotting and cramping of 2 weeks ago hadn't been anything serious. So we do the Doppler thing. No heartbeat. Now, granted the doctor said the heart started beating about 3 weeks ago, but usually our technology can't hear the heartbeat for a few more weeks. So then I got to move down the hall to the sonogram room to try again to find a heartbeat. So we're looking and looking at this black and white screen that honestly I can't see a thing on. And neither can the nurse. Finally she says she has found the embryo, or fetus, or whatever the baby is called at this stage - but no heartbeat. She pointed out where the kiddo is because I still can't see anything by saying "It's that peanut shaped thing there." But, Peanut's little heart wasn't showing any signs of beating.

Of course, at this point my heart is beating like I'm going in to cardiac arrest and Chris was glued to the sonogram screen trying to make out any kind of movement. Finally, just before the nurse decided to give up and try something else, "Peanut" decided to cooperate and display a heartbeat. Whew.

We know a few things at this point - Peanut is in there alone, and Peanut appears to be just fine. After deciding to cooperate with a heartbeat Peanut even moved around a little bit. Good for Peanut.

Wilson left yesterday for Honey and Poppy's house on his "Big Boy Vacation". He was set and ready to go. He had a suitcase, a bag of snacks, DVDs to watch, and a Mason jar that he insisted he needed to take to catch fireflies in. I had to decorate it, of course - I suppose he thought everyone at Honey and Poppy's has a bug jar and he didn't want his to get lost. So my child loaded up in Mrs. Polly's car with the grandparents holding a Mason jar that says "Wilson's Bugs" on it. I told mom she should feel free to dump whatever is in the jar whenever he's not looking.

He was all set to go too - Honey bought him/Poppy a portable DVD player that has screens that attach to the headrests of vehicles. This brings me to my "these aren't the parents I had" moment because there were three of us kids crammed into the back of a Cadillac Seville and there was no DVD player, headsets, or entertainment devices of any kind. If we were bored Dad pretty much said that's why he bought a car with windows for us to look out of. I can't believe they've gone "soft". Wilson better not get used to that DVD idea because if a window was good enough for me, it's good enough for him.

Here's my prayer: "Long live the Peanut!" All jokes aside (even though that joke is sincere...I'm hoping for a good 90 years for the little tyke), please know that I'm lifting you up BIG time. Love you!
