Mother's Day
I know it's several days until Mother's Day. But, Wilson paid special tribute to his Mommy last night after dinner and I thought I would share it:
I cooked dinner last night, like I do every night. After we ate dinner Wilson came to me and said "Hey, thank you for cooking my meal." I said "Thank you Wilson, that is very sweet of you." He started to leave the kitchen, then turned around and said "Oh, you look pretty tonight too." What a special guy - I was thanked for dinner AND he thinks I'm pretty. So the guys at my house don't really have to get me a gift this year - but they've already ordered one, so this will be a good Mother's Day.
We had Wilson's Parent-Teacher conference at his school Friday afternoon. He's doing well there, dispite some rough patches a few weeks ago. He has lots of friends, he's learning, and his teachers are fabulous. I can't explain to you all how wonderful our Children's Center is. It is truly a blessing to drop him off and know he's being loved and cared for by fantastic teachers. Obviously I wish I could be home with him all day but we like to pay our bills at our house, so I continue with my job.
Another humorous thing that ties in with Wilson's schooling is that Chris and I bought a little Father-Son Bible book that has Bible stories and then a discussion guide for sons and their dads. Every night Chris and Wilson read his Bible before bed. We're noticing that Wilson is very much in to an Old Testament style of justice and retribution. That is, "an eye for an eye" mentality. If someone does something wrong at school or at home or anywhere for that matter, Wilson wants swift justice that is equal to the crime committed. No Court TV for him! Also it is funny and yet aggravating that we told Wilson "Don't throw rocks at people" and then the Bible story that night turns out to be David and Goliath. Of course, David threw a rock at Goliath and he's a hero. Wilson wants to know why David is a hero when earlier he got time-out for throwing rocks. And I won't even begin to tell you the explaining we went through when the Bible story was Abraham going to sacrifice his son, Isaac. We couldn't say "Let's all go for a walk" without Wilson hiding from us!
The best Mother's Day gift is, of course, my son. He's taught me so much about really focusing on the world - like watching bugs on flowers, marvelling at the smell of dandelions, and snuggling for naptime. He really teaches me more than I teach him. And I am certain I have never laughed so much until he came along. I am so thankful I have Wilson.
